For those of you who don’t know, Attain Digital are our digital development partners.
We have just commissioned them to develop a new management plugin which will sit behind the countercoin.network website enabling what we are terming a ‘Team Leader’ (think Narina from the Cultural Squatters) to login using a username and password to add Volunteers with basic information such as;
Title, Forename, Surname, Email, Address, Postcode, Contact Number
This will be stored in a new database table sat behind the website. Team Leaders will then be able to create events with the following fields:
Event Title, Time/Date, Location, Description
Once an event has been created the Team Leader will be able to add Volunteers to this event/s and once the event/s has finished the Team Leader will be able to log back in and add how much time the Volunteer put towards the event again this information will be stored in the database ready for reporting in the future.
This process will use the WordPress user system with custom post types and user roles, each user will be set up with different permissions and the menu will change accordingly based on their role.
As part of this process, ATTAIN will create an area in the database to link Team Member to organisation such as The Squat, the YMCA or Keele University. It will be tested by Narina to make sure it works and to begin with, there will be no management page for this.
This process will then allow Narina to add Volunteers, event and attach Volunteers to events and allow them to add hours to users after the event.
The plugin will be the base of all future updates and will be built with future updates in mind, the plugin will be bespoke code so it will not be reliant on other 3rd party plugins. As it’s bespoke we can integrate and develop the code to perform what every action is required as the CounterCoin project moves from challenge to challenge. Hopefully, this will give enough functionality to allow the Team Leader to enter the data and see if it would work for them over a period of weeks/months.
CounterCoin will also have admin rights to the plugin to help and support and even enter the hour’s on behalf of Team Leaders as discussed in the recent digital meeting, this will mean the plugin can be tested from both site admin and Team Leaders.
So in a nutshell this is a fairly rudimentary first step, but an important one all the same. Going digital has been our objective all along but we didn’t make the mistake of starting there. (Been there, done that).
We began with plastic, now we’re ceramic and in the future, we’ll be digital. But we’ll never lose sight of the fact that a new economic system needs to have inclusivity, diversity and equity baked into its design. This is a system that we will ensure works for everyone who believes in the need to #BeKind.
